Central Virginia Chapter Food Plot Updates

July 11, 2008

WOW!!!! The Food plot that we planted the Antler King Red Zone mix EXCELLED! All the soybeans, forage peas, buckwheat, trapper peas, and the peredovik sunflowers are nipped off any where between 12 to 16 inches above ground.  There are deer trails throughout the Food plot, with several deer bed on the edges. Please view the photos in the gallery.

On Friday Russell Robertson and I met at the food plot site. We disked the area and spread over 100 lbs of 19-19-19 fertilizer and we put down lime. After finishing up these procedures we notice we had enough material to do an old wood road flat a couple hundred yards away. Russell disked up the old road bed and we did the same procedures. The Antler King red zone mix was soiled and covered. Tecomate Ultra Forage was planted on the old wood road flat. Now it's a waiting game to see how our food plots progress. Which plot do you think will get used the most? Please let us hear from you. Please view food plot photos in our gallery.

Project lead is Russell Robertson.

Due to heavy rain in the area, the disking of the plot has been rescheduled for next weekend.

A sample of the food plot area soil has been sent to Virginia Tech University. We have purchased Antler King Red Zone, a mix of soybeans, forage peas, buckwheat, trapper peas, and peredovik sunflower seed, and Tecomate Ultra Forage, a mix of annual legumes, chicory, and brassica mix.

Once we hear from Virginia Tech, we will break ground to lime and fertilized the area; then plant seeds. We will use The Antler King mix in the middle, and then border it with the Tecomate mix around the edges.

You can keep up with the food plot progress by visiting our website and clicking on the Photo Albums to view progress pictures.

This food plot is in a NO HUNTING ZONE and all tree stands or blinds must be 100 yards off food plot area.
